Mentorship matters: empowering young talents and building a strong engineering culture

How we think about mentorship at Moberg — and why we believe it's how good engineering cultures actually compound over time.

Written by Karla Tomšić and Martina Blažević March 2025

Mentorship at Moberg is built on open communication, trust, and mutual respect. We try to cultivate environments where engineers ask questions, experiment, and grow continuously. Kindness and humility aren't soft extras — they're cornerstones for any mentoring relationship that actually works. Mentors model the behaviours that shape inclusive, productive teams.

What mentees take away

  • Constructive feedback and career guidance grounded in real experience.
  • Real-world engineering insights — the things you don't get from a textbook.
  • Confidence built through the steady support of someone who's been through it.
  • Stronger problem-solving instincts that compound with every challenge.

What mentors take away

Mentorship doesn't flow only one way. Experienced engineers gain a lot in return:

  • Sharper leadership and communication skills.
  • Continuous learning through knowledge-sharing — teaching forces clarity.
  • Increased job satisfaction and a deeper sense of purpose in the work.
“Teaching others what I know comes naturally — we all grow as better colleagues and experts.”

— Domagoj Medo, Lead Engineer

Bringing students into real engineering: TVZ Mc² competition

Moberg actively mentors students at Zagreb's University of Applied Sciences through the TVZ Mc² competition. The point is to bridge academic learning with the realities of industry — to give students a glimpse of what's actually on the other side of graduation, and to give them a hand getting there.

“Having the right mentor can seriously help you grow faster.”

— Jurica Leljak, graduate, now a backend .NET developer

How it shapes the wider organisation

Mentorship doesn't just help individuals — it strengthens whole teams:

  • Shared learning that lifts the technical bar across the company.
  • A more collaborative culture, where help is offered before it's asked for.
  • A long-term commitment to developing the next generation of engineers — not just hiring them.

All of this is grounded in our core values — engineering precision, human-centred technology, and kindness. Without those three together, mentorship becomes a checkbox. With them, it becomes the way the culture grows.

How we handle rapid changes in development caused by AI

The pace of change in AI is genuinely fast. Here's how we keep our engineering grounded — and quietly improve faster than the noise around us.

Two strong answers to the same modernization question — different architecture philosophy, operating model and audience. A neutral comparison across the dimensions that actually decide it.

MTK: AI-driven development, held accountable

AI now writes a serious share of our code. MTK is how we make sure that never lowers the bar — spec first, tests second, AI-generated code third, every change reviewed and traceable.
